課程概述

1. Crystal properties of semiconductors
2. Quantum physics (only video, no lecture in class)
3. Band structures of semiconductors
4. Electrostatics and dynamics of carriers in semiconductors
5. Metal/semiconductor and semiconductor p/n junctions
6. MOS capacitors
7. MOSFETs 

課程目標
This course covers the fundamentals of semiconductor physics and device applications. Students will understand basic concepts of solid state physics, carrier transport in semiconductors, p/n junctions, and MOSFET. This course is a prerequisite to the course of electronic, optoelectronic, and quantum devices for logic applications, solid state physics, and VLSI technology.

參考書目
The followings are graduate-level reference books. The first is best-seller and must-have, which is the template for all new books in this area. You can use it as a textbook, too. The second is probably the best for MOSFETs, never see another textbook with so much detail. The third one is a great great reference for semiconductor properties and characterization of semiconductor devices. 1 and 3 are free download on NTU library.

2. Fundamentals of Modern VLSI Devices (2nd edition) by Taur and Ning, Cambridge 2009 (great for MOSFET)
3. Semiconductor Material and Device Characterization (3rd edition) by Schroder, Wiley 2006. (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/bkabstractplus.jsp?bkn=5237928). Very useful reference book
